If you didn’t read about it already, there is a brand-new MGM Casino that has opened right next to the National Harbor, near D.C. My husband and I found the need to take a driving break after returning from a long day, round trip drive to North Carolina. (It’s also a long story!) We had not visited the casino yet, and figured this was the perfect opportunity to stretch our legs. And one of us was getting a little grumpy (me of course). Trust me – we were not disappointed!
We scouted out the restaurants outside of the inner hub of the casino first. There are so many to choose from. For this food experience we just wanted low key, and not too expensive. We eventually agreed on an Asian Fusion restaurant that is actually owned by MGM called Ginger. We sat on their indoor patio which is in the atrium of MGM. It’s open and bright and a fun place to people watch. I ordered a delightful glass of Riesling and my adventurous husband opted for one of their specialty drinks. For our main dishes we decided on the “Drunken Seafood Noodles” and the “Singapore Noodles.”
Our server was accommodating when I asked to minus the curry from my dish. Both our selections were delightful; and the proof was in the fact we had no leftovers to take home! Our thanks to our server and Jane Lin, the Assistant Manager, for taking such good care of us. They couldn’t have been any nicer. You can check out their website at www.mgmnationalharbor.com, click on the restaurant tab at the top, or explore the other exciting things to do at the casino. Don’t forget to tell them I sent you.

After paying our check, we took time to stroll around some of the shops. If you enjoy the gambling side, you’re also probably asking, “Why didn’t you jump right to the casino?” Well, my friend, who loves to gamble, would just laugh and say gambling gives me sweaty palms. I just don’t have any luck in that area. However, tonight I decided to be a high roller and hit the penny slot machines. I put a whole $5 in one machine and after getting nothing in return after 3 games, I cashed out! Stop laughing. So, I strolled around and decided on another machine and sat down. I put in my cash out ticket for about $3 and another $5 dollars on top of that. In a very short period of time, I was down to about $1.00 and needed to “invest” a couple more dollars. Well that’s when it happened – I actually won 18 free games and continued to win – over and over again.
I cashed out after winning $85, with my husband advising to quit while I was ahead. With a full wallet and a full belly, we strolled around the outside of the casino. What a fabulous and exciting open area with fountains, other restaurants with actual outside patios. We could even see a faint view of the Washington Monument in the distance. Close by is also the National Harbor, which is another fun place to visit.
Well, I hope you enjoyed our little adventure to the new MGM Casino at the National Harbor in Maryland. It’s a great day or evening trip. If you decide to travel over to the National Harbor area, you can even take a boat over to Alexandria, Virginia for some great shopping and more restaurants. Hummm – another future blog idea!
