When do you feel inspired? It’s usually doing something that you are passionate about or being somewhere or with someone special. But in relation to my blog, what inspires me is sharing with you some “Yummy” restaurants while enjoying an evening out with my hubby. This past Saturday night we planned our adventure and headed up I-95 to Chesapeake City, Maryland, to a restaurant right on the C&D Canal. Schaefer’s Canal House is jam-packed full of breathtaking views of the C&D Canal, has mouth-watering seafood and a upbeat, friendly atmosphere.
I mentioned to a friend recently that we went to Schaefer’s for dinner and how great it was. Her answer was, “Oh, I thought they had closed.” (I’ve heard this more than once). So after pulling up their website, www.schaeferscanalhouse.com, I discovered they have had quite an interesting history. New owners took over in 2010, and after much renovation, this is definitely the new and improved Schaefer’s!
Their outdoor dining (which I prefer) is my idea of a perfect setting. Pick a day when the weather is good, but be careful – everyone else might be thinking the same way. It’s a popular place! In previous visits, we’ll go early and put our names on the list (no reservations) for outdoor seating. Then we head to the outdoor bar for a drink and order a pound of the best steamed shrimp we’ve ever had.
Who cares if there’s a wait, right? We just enjoy the view, enjoy good company and watch the boats go by. You may even be treated by some rather large vessels that are travelling through the C&D. It’s an amazing spectacle to experience. In addition to “on the water” entertainment, there is usually a band playing after 6 pm. (check the schedule on line).
After were seated for dinner (right on the edge of the dock by the water), I noticed this time there are some new additions to their menu. I was dying to try their short rib tacos, but opted for a no carb meal this time. My favorite is their Seafood Salad with is packed full of chilled lobster, shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat with a creamy champagne vinaigrette for only $17. My husband, also keeping it healthy, ordered the Arcadian Scallop Salad that had chili glazed scallops on a bed of mixed greens, roasted peppers candied pecans and more. It was a definite winner and I have to add, it was very yummy!!
So, if you mention to someone that you’re going to dinner at Schaefer’s Canal House and they say, “I think they’re closed”, don’t believe them? It’s a perfect date night selection. If you time it right, you’ll enjoy another “on the water show” – a gorgeous sunset. It doesn’t get any more romantic than that.

Yummy, yummy in my tummy!
Great blog & great job of making me
hungry. Love, Your sister 😃
